Phraze For The Young - The 'debut' by Julian Casablancas

A prelude to the new album from the Strokes?

The Strokes – Julian Casablancas Some years ago an old friend put my hands on Is This It (RCA, 2001), debut album with the New York group The Strokes: "listen to what may be one of the best albums of this year," he said.
And it was wrong ...

It was during the early stages of this new millennium. , solía llevar cabello largo y chaqueta de cuero, y parecía estar en boca de todos… por lo menos de la audiencia femenina. There were several groups called 'The ...' (Hives, White Stripes, etc.).. Julian Casablancas, lead singer songwriter and the Strokes, used to wear long hair and leather jacket, and seemed to be on everyone's lips ... at least of the female audience.

Soon after come the Room Of Fire (RCA, 2003), which did nothing but confirm the high quality of speaking all prestigious music magazines.
The effort of the band members for giving their best was impressive, especially live: the people who attended any of his three shows in South America in 2005 not let me lie.

From there they ended up losing the track. I heard a couple of tracks from his next job, which could be seen as a kind of departure from the style up until then ... partly influenced by the change of producer (Gordon Raphael David Kahne) and not caused me the same 'good 'impression.

Suddenly, after he appeared to have passed another thousand years, the theme "11th dimension" is making its foray into the network: once an idea came to mind for many ... "" Casablanca + synthesizers? '... Part of an equation somewhat inconsistent but exciting at the same time.

The rhythm, the encouraging phrase "your faith has to be greater than your fear," and the 'sticky' was the chorus that gave indications that something interesting was coming, a first approach to Casablancas' solo debut that was preceded by a couple of notable collaborations with other artists.

”, el título que da inicio a este álbum debut, bien podría estar a la altura de lo hecho en el Is This It . And of course, the rest of Praze For The Young (Rough Trade, 2009) was as interesting as expected: "out of the blue", the title that kicks off this debut album could well be up to the fact in Is This It.
Hear is almost a catharsis. It has endowed this atmosphere of mystery and revelation while, and probably be well deserves the character of any review of the disc.

But despite the similarities do not we have a song by the Strokes, and that is why while mark a boundary between it and what comes next.

Moving away from the constant sound of guitars, Casablancas develops their ideas and creativity at intervals of 5 minutes (which last about all subjects) filled with achievement and contrast of these synth melodies ... and give it form and rhythm to the chorus: a mixture of 'curiosity and extension' repeated incessantly throughout the album.

The Strokes – Julian Casablancas That 'curiosity and extension' at the time of writing could have ended in a poor group of ideas and musical styles, but again, its maintenance and smooth vocal turns out to be the leitmotif of the whole.

Phraze For The Young only has 8 songs, but each trip is an attractive 300 seconds long.
nos embarca en un vuelo continuo y sin escalas por la mente de su creador. Casablancas has met all his musical talent and variety here: from soul and country to a raw rock guitars and synth-pop, For The Young Phraze us on a continuous, nonstop flight through the mind of its creator.

” (que hace recordar por momentos a Muse , y podría ser visto como el único título que se sale de contexto). The first time I heard the entire disc may be overlooked is how different, for example, "left & right in the dark" from "River of brakelights" (reminiscent at times to Muse, and could be seen as the only title is out of context).
”, que precede el estilo ' country-baladístico ' en el que se desarrolla. And is there much to discover in him that escapes us at first, since this remarkable pace in almost religious "tourist" to that strange, calm principle of "Ludow st.", Which precedes the style 'country-baladístico' in which it develops.

Nobody knows what comes next. hace algunas semanas: In their official website reads that the new work from the Strokes is expected in 2010, have already recorded songs (about 20) but not decide which would end up in this ... or that Casablancas said some weeks ago:

There is disagreement about which songs are ready to include in the album ... some members of the band opt for one and the remainder for other ... I'm more or less in the middle of the whole discussion.

”, el disco es todo lo que se podía esperar de la mente creativa de Casablancas . For The Young Phraze has earned mixed reviews, but mostly positive: some say that only the first three tracks are good and the rest not worth it, others say except "River of brakelights", the disc is everything you would expect from the creative mind of Casablancas.
As always, love him or hate him is simply a matter of taste.

I've missed hearing it more than once to catch the taste.
Give him a chance: only $ 4.99 via iTunes to listen to an interesting study that serves as a prelude to the new and highly anticipated album by the Strokes.

One Response to "Phraze For The Young - The 'debut' Julian Casablancas"

  1. The truth is that the record is rather mixed, with influences ranging from folk or gospel to the Strokes themselves. In my blog I do a Resana, though not as deep as this.
